As a Nigerian person who was born in the UK, (I’ve only been back home once!) how does one fit into Nigerian culture, when I go back to Nigeria, I stick out like a sore thumb, but here in the UK I’m definetly classified as a Nigerian. So where do I fit!?
I totally relate to this - I have lived in US most of my life and, though I do visit Nigeria now and again and have decent ties to the country, I often feel out of place when in Nigeria. Then in US, especially in the heightened climate, I'm seen as a Nigerian, not an American!
I think some sort of diaspora initiative that keeps Nigerians 'well connected' to Nigeria and Nigerians at home, and celebrates our culture, would be good. As for me, I say I am a Nigerian living in US!
