I think a lot can be derived from the use of sound e-Governance in relation to eradicating corruption in Nigeria. Basically, a sound e-Governance structure will eliminate the need to interact with people who rip off the nation by ensuring that they have the option of fleecing money off people to do the basic tasks that need to be done e.g. to get a passport or driving licence etc. With sound e-governance, we will also have the option of improved accountability and the ability to track and scrutinise every transaction and process.
For reference see the Wikipedia definition of e-governace - link to full article is below...
"Electronic governance or e-governance is the application of information and communication technology (ICT) for delivering government services, exchange of information, communication transactions, integration of various stand-alone systems and services between government-to-customer (G2C), government-to-business (G2B), government-to-government (G2G) as well as back office processes and interactions within the entire government framework. Through e-governance, government services will be made available to citizens in a convenient, efficient and transparent manner. The three main target groups that can be distinguished in governance concepts are government, citizens and businesses/interest groups. In e-governance there are no distinct boundaries."
Could e-Governance be used in conjunction with the current traditional (perhaps more refined) method of governing the country? Is this feasible?
I think so - the challenge would be the selection of the gate keepers of this e-governance structure. Nigeria could lose everything in the lead up to its implementation as the looters see this as the death of their free access to government coffers, so raid them before "go live". But we need such development, we really do!
